Rik joined the Raleigh office of River Cities in 2004 after completing his master's degree in business administration at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. While a graduate student at Duke he was the CEO of the Duke Start-Up Challenge, the largest university business plan competition that raises and awards over $100K in seed capital to promising companies, and the President of the Entrepreneur and Venture Capital Club. In addition, Rik spearheaded the strategic plan to develop a university-wide center for entrepreneurship for Duke University with the end goal of increasing technology transfer and developing entrepreneurially minded students.

Prior to business school, he worked for six years in the strategy consulting groups of Accenture and Scient focused on developing start-up companies and new channel strategies for existing businesses, before starting his own strategy consulting firm. Rik graduated from Vanderbilt University where he received his BE in Mechanical Engineering.

A native of Weston, Massachusetts, Rik and his wife Trista now reside in Cary, North Carolina.
