2004 Annual Leadership Conference Workshops
Transformational Nature of Power and Influence
(Co-Led by CPT Doug Crandall and CPT Chip Daniels, U.S. Army, United States Military Academy, Department of Behavioral Sciences & Leadership)
The most influential leaders transform both the personal and professional lives of those they lead...often for a lifetime. It is possible for everyone to achieve this level of leadership, yet many leaders rely solely on the legitimate authority derived from their formal position. This workshop will explore alternative sources of influence that we can apply as leaders. Through various experiential exercises, we will learn and practice numerous ways of influencing people. Most importantly, we will learn how to use our power and influence to transform the lives of those we lead for the better, as opposed to simply transacting with them on a day-to-day basis.
Uncrowned Leadership
(Led by Greg Ferguson, Mercury Development, LLC)
This interactive session will explore the ways in which an aspiring leader can develop a track record of success through the important lessons of context, diversity, empowerment, and volunteerism. These skills and traits are invaluable in any leadership setting, yet not easily attainable in some corporate settings. Participants will leave with a practical game plan on how to help themselves by helping others first and learning, acquiring, and strengthening leadership skills through community and volunteer service.
Fostering Creative Cultures Through Improvisational Leadership
(Led by Robert Kulhan, Business Improvisation)
Improvisation can be defined as “an intuitive, coordinated, and spontaneous response in a dynamic environment.” This experiential session will be led by Prof. Bob Kulhan and professional improvisation coaches from Chicago who have worked with such groups as The Second City and Improv Olympic. You will be guided through a series of exercises designed to help you cultivate skills necessary to manage change, manage teams, and respond decisively in real-time.
A Leader’s Imperative
(Eagle's Flight Experiential Group)
This experiential workshop will focus on the ONE imperative that leaders need to understand and demonstrate; an imperative that pervades, supports and enhances all other leadership skills required to grow and harness the potential of the people you lead. Participants will be introduced to a leadership model which focuses on three foundational skills that all leaders must demonstrate – Model the behaviors expected, Coach to a standard behavior and Require that the behavior is demonstrated. |
