Sarah Reinstein, Fuqua MBA ’00, is a Senior Corporate Partnership Manager in the Corporate Development department of City Year in Boston, MA. In 14 communities across the country, City Year unites a diverse corps of young adults, ages 17 to 24, for a demanding year of full-time community service, leadership development, and civic engagement. Sarah manages partnerships with some of City Year’s leading corporate sponsors, including Cisco Systems, Comcast, and Microsoft. Sarah says, “it has been a great time to be an MBA in the nonprofit sector - never before has there been such an openness to incorporating business thinking and principles into day-to-day operations, and never before has the private sector been so willing to support these initiatives. My Fuqua education has prepared me well for being at this juncture between the nonprofit and for-profit worlds."
Keith Artin, Fuqua MBA ’99, is COO of Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers, Inc. (TROSA). TROSA is a Durham-area nonprofit residential therapeutic community for substance abusers which provides vocational training and generates significant financial support by operating a range of businesses, including the largest privately-owned moving business in the Triangle area. Keith spends much of his time analyzing TROSA’s needs, reviewing priorities and making decisions within the constraints of its resources. “At TROSA, the work I do has a real impact. I believe in what the organization is doing. The good we are doing is tangible, and that pulls me through the hard days. . . Social enterprise is a growing field. Many nonprofits—though not all—could benefit from earned-income ventures. Besides, with the skills and education of an MBA, you will always have other opportunities.”
Jennifer Pawlowski, Fuqua MBA '03, is a Program Coordinator at the Rockefeller Foundation. The purpose of her Program is to contribute to the renewal of the African continent by strengthening human and institutional capacity through the promotion of effective policies and programs. Her main tasks are assisting in the development of African Higher Education strategy through various research projects, fostering and maintaining communications with international partners, organizing and attending regional workshops in Africa, and interacting with grantees. “The Fuqua MBA enhanced my professional skills, but more importantly I looked inward and questioned what career path would offer me the opportunity to address issues of international poverty alleviation and feel fulfilled both professionally and personally.”
